Artistic Elegance Meets Academic Brilliance at the Black Authors Festival

Join us in Sag Harbor for a star-studded evening celebrating Black literary excellence and the fight for literacy.

Sag Harbor, NY. - This Saturday, August 3rd, the 2nd Annual Black Authors Festival will light up Sag Harbor with a dazzling evening of literary celebration at the Breakwater Yacht Club. Recognized as one of the Top Nine Best Festivals in the country by USA Today, this event promises to be a highlight of the summer.

The Black Authors Festival is not just a showcase of literary talent but a mission-driven event aiming to increase literacy rates, particularly within the Black community. Founders Darlene and Verdel are passionate educators committed to reversing the trend of book banning, especially of significant Black literary works like Maya Angelou's "I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings" and Toni Morrison's "The Bluest Eye."

This year’s festival features a star-studded red carpet with honorees such as Emmy-winning journalist Tamron Hall, celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson, Hip Hop pioneer Ralph McDaniels, and renowned scholars like Dr. Jennifer Morgan from NYU. The event will be hosted by Alissa Anderson from BET and Rudy Breedy from Nassau Community College Foundation.

Attendees can look forward to live music from the premier band Never Lose Touch and an exclusive after-party DJed by the legendary DJ Belal. The festival board includes notable figures like Dr. Georgette Grier-Key, former NBA player Neil Anthony Edwards, and celebrity stylist Carlton Spence.

Co-founder Darlene Williams emphasizes the importance of fighting for the freedom of speech and expression, while Verdel Jones celebrates the festival as a platform to amplify Black voices and inspire future generations.

Founded by two professional Black women, the Black Authors Festival aims to empower Black authors and promote the writing and publishing of their own stories. The event is supported by Share Inform Enlighten Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to improving the quality of life through education and literacy.
